Aerial view of Stonehenge

Stonehenge near the city of Salisbury, county of Wiltshire, England is one of the earliest excavated sites of the world.

Significance

It is one of the Seven Wonders of the medieval period

Age

It is over 4,000 years old.

Stones

Today there are 79 major stones.

Height

Some of the stones are 18ft high

Weight

Some stones weigh up to 40 tons.

Construction

It was built between 2500-2000BC

Shape

This set of stones laid out in horseshoe shape and is one of the oldest, and certainly best preserved site.

Seniority

It was built almost 250 years prior to the Egyptian Pyramids but unlike Pyramids its purpose is mysterious.

Excavation

The first known excavations were carried out by Dr William Harvey and Gilbert North in the early 17th century.

How Built?

In 1136, Geoffrey of Monmouth suggested that the movement of these huge stones was done through the magic of Merlin the wizard.

More likely, the builders moved them by dragging them on wooden sledges.

There is another saying that they got them by shipping.

A theory advanced in the 19th century that the Druids, had built it as a temple but Modern archaeological techniques have dated Stonehenge and we now know that it was completed at least 1,000 years before the Druids came to power.

The most interesting vibe is that the Aliens were its builders and if it was so, I would salute them, tearing my boots that they had labor from other planets as well (how great they were!!!).

Purpose

Its purpose is also an argument like its builders, whether it was built for ritual activities or for slaughtering humans furthermore such myths also revolve that it was for worship and some says it may also have served as a place of healing.

But whatever it was built for is an unfruitful discussion (my opinion), this place is like a cherry on top, one must visit it. It’s worth seeing.
